A man injured in the Bastille Day terror attack in Nice has died, bringing the number of those killed to 85, a local official announced late Thursday.
Christian Estrosi, the former mayor of Nice and the current president of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, tweeted his condolences for the family of the victim, whom he identified as Pierre Hattermann.
Hattermann was a 56-year-old from France’s eastern Haute-Savoie region, whose wife and son were also killed in the attack and whose teenage daughter remains in hospital, AFP reported, citing local media. According to AFP, Nice’s Pasteur hospital said the man had died Thursday and had been on life support since the day of the attack.
“All my thoughts for the girl, the family and relatives of Pierre Hattermann who just died,” Estrosi tweeted.
Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian, drove a 19-tonne truck into a crowd after a fireworks display on Nice’s seafront Promenade des Anglais on July 14, before being shot dead by police. The attack, which was later claimed by the Islamic State terror group, left 434 people injured.
