The British prime minister is expected to warn world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly that “uncontrolled mass migration” is leading to an erosion in public support for the migrant crisis, the Guardian reported Monday.

Theresa May, who is in New York for the meeting, will ask leaders to back a different global approach to the migration crisis and seek to reduce the “unmanaged population movement,” according to the British publication, which has seen a preview of her remarks.

May will propose that efforts focus on helping refugees claim asylum in the first safe country they reach and a better distinguishing between refugees and economic migrants. She will also seek assurances that countries have the right to control their borders.

Migrants leaving their home countries en masse are exposed to exploitation and hurt their home and destination countries’ interests and sap public support for refugees, May is expected to say.
