Thousands of Americans took to the streets in cities around the U.S. Wednesday night to protest against Donald Trump’s shock win in the presidential election.
Demonstrations took place in New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Portland and Chicago, among other cities, a day after the Republican candidate swept to victory.
Protesters carrying signs stating “Dump Trump” marched through Manhattan, gathering outside Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, where the president-elect lives. Police arrested 15 people, according to AFP.
Demonstrations took a violent turn in Oakland, California, with protesters lighting fires and throwing bottles and firecrackers, local media reported.
Protesters in Los Angeles burned an orange-haired Trump effigy outside City Hall, according to the Los Angeles Times.
