SYDNEY — Australia’s first lady Lucy Turnbull is “very flattered” to have been described as “delicious” by French President Emmanuel Macron on his trip Down Under, her husband said.
“Lucy was very flattered,” Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters Thursday. “She has asked me to say she found the president’s compliment as charming as it was memorable.”
“It was a great visit,” the PM continued. “President Macron charmed Australia. He certainly charmed all of us, all of the Turnbulls.”
Macron, whom Turnbull described as “a great friend of Australia’s,” on Wednesday during a press conference thanked Turnbull and his “delicious wife” for their hospitality.
Macron switched between French and English during the press conference and may have misused the French word for delicious — delicieuse — which also translates as “delightful.”
Sometimes translation is tough.
