A peace march in Brussels scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled, with the authorities saying they cannot guarantee safety.
Citing the security threat level being at 3 — the second highest level — the ongoing investigation into Tuesday’s deadly attacks and police capacity, authorities on Saturday asked organizers to postpone the “March against fear” for a “few weeks.”
The march organizers agreed to the request.
“We fully agree with the authorities in this proposal to postpone to a later date. We therefore call, in turn, for citizens not to attend this Sunday in Brussels,” the organizers said in a statement.
The march was due to start at 2 p.m. at the Bourse, the Brussels stock exchange. No new date has been set.
