Mosques should be banned and the Koran includes “lies and deception,” according to a draft policy document from the Lower Bavarian branch of German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), leaked to the RND newspaper group.
In the document, titled “The courage to take responsibility,” the party also writes Islam does not belong in Germany and is contrary to the country’s constitution.
The document calls for limiting Germany’s protection of religious freedom in order to facilitate the crackdown.
Other AfD leaders have distanced themselves from the policy draft.
Petr Bystron, the leader of AfD’s Bavarian-wide operations, told RND that while he was aware of the document, the party’s leadership did not agree with the proposals.
AfD has previously called for a ban on circumcision of boys on religious grounds and a ban on minarets and the muezzin, the crier who recites the Islamic call to prayer.
The anti-immigrant AfD recently put in a surprisingly strong showing in Germany’s regional elections, and now has representatives in half the state parliaments in Germany.
